Washington State Library's collection of photographs of the eruption of Mount St. Helens Volcano [picture] 1980 May 18 / Washington State Library in affiliation with the National Cartographic Information Center, U.S. Department of Interior /Geological Survey.

This is a collection of photographs of the Mount St. Helens eruption in May 1980. The photographs appear to be a collection of aerial and satellite photographs that were taken by the Washington State Dept. of Transportation and the U.S. Dept. of Interior/Geological Survey. All of the photographs are 9 in. (23 cm.) x 9 in. (23 cm.) except one that was enlarged. It is a black & white photograph of the actual plume erupting from the volcano. This photograph is about 21 in. (53 cm.) x 21 in. (53 cm.) and it is a close-up look at the volcano and plume. It appears that these photographs were ordered from the Washington State Library Dept. of Transportation because on the outside of the folder is a business card from James. A. Walker of the Washington State Dept. of Transportation. Also included in this collection are about 41 2 x 2 slides of the Eruption. They are very similar to the Dept. of Transportation's pictures, in fact, some may be the same. These slides are stamped individually with: "Division of Geology. Dept. Natural Resources. copyright Wash. D.N.R. 1981." There are 5 black & white vista view photographs measuring 9 in. x 9 in. with 1.5 in. black border and two color Landsat aerial views of Mount St. Helens measuring approx. 8.5 in. x 8.5 in. The five vista view photographs taken in flight from west, southwest, south, and southeast angles with a focus on the eruption plume photographed on the day of the eruption. The two color Landsat photographs are taken directly above Mount St. Helens showing the broad scope of the landslide from the eruption. These photographs cover a range from the North Fork Toutle to Spirit Lake.

3 linear feet (circa 8 photographs & 41 slides)
